Hucknall and Linby Dolphins Content With Fifth Place in ‘roller-coaster’ gala.

With 17 personal bests 1 win, 11 runners up spots and 5 third places Dolphins were a little bemused with 5th place on Saturday in the first gala of the new season.

Further examination showed that a higher than usual number of disqualification and many swimmers simply swimming too fast for the speed rated gala were the main reasons for the suppressed overall points total.

The single victory of the night came from Katie Hill in the 11u 50m Breaststroke.

Individual second places for Katie 11u 50m Backstroke, Lauren Daft 13u 100m Breaststroke, Luke Chambers  9yr 25m Butterfly, Jacee Fells  11u 50m Freestyle, Luke Hill  13u 100m Backstroke, Joel Gospel  9yr 25m Breaststroke and 9y 25m Freestyle, Sophie Pritchard  9yr 25m Breaststroke, Felix Bodill 13u 100m Butterfly.

Relay runner up spots for new dream team of Ruby Westmoreland, Sophie, Esme White, Sasha York in the 9yr 4 x 1L Medley Relay and again in the 9 yr 4 x 1L Freestyle.

Third place individual for Sasha York  9 yr 25m Freestyle.

Relay thirds going to Rhys Harwood, Joel, Luke C, Tom West 9yr 4 x 1L Medley. Josh Heath, Luke H, Curtis Flint and Lynden Johnson 15u 4x2L Medley. Luke H, Curtis, Felix, Ryan Smith 13u 4 x 2L Medley. Joel, Rhys, Luke C, Tom 9 yr 4 x 1L Freestyle.

Personal bests were also set on the night set by Josh Kemp, Sasha Ford and Izzy Coleman.

We were fantastically competitive in many areas tonight, but paid the price for having over standard swimmers in some races. A more refined team selection will probably be put in place next time, but a win is a win in our language no matter how many points the team gets.

RESULT — MAD 222 points, Derby Phoenix 192, Ripley 163, Matlock B 161, Hucknall 156, Matlock C 123
