Dolphins youngsters hold on to third place at Matlock

Our rising young stars once again enabled Hucknall and Linby Dolphins to stay competitive against tough opposition at the Arc Centre Matlock pool last Saturday night. The novice gala saw Dolphins rise to second place at the halfway and three-quarter marks but the strength in depth exhibited by Ripley saw them Rascals nip in at the end to leave Dolphins with a respectable third place in the six team Gala.

First place finishes going to Luke Chambers 9yrs 25m Boys Breaststroke and Katie Hill swimming up an age category in the 11u 50m Butterfly.

Three of the four runner up spots coming from a blistering display on the night by Joel Gospel 9yrs 25m Breaststroke and Freestyle, Joel then swimming up two age groups to claim another second in the 11u 50m Breaststroke. Katie claiming the other 2nd place in the 10Yrs 25m Freestyle.


The nine third place spots really helping Dolphins to a top half finish on the night went to Joel 10yrs 25m Freestyle, Ellie Norris 9yrs 25m Breaststroke, Sasha York 9yrs 25m Freestyle, Luke 9yrs 25m Freestyle, Alexa Sherratt 10u 25m Backstroke, Tyler Dennis 10u 25m Backstroke and Luka Gospel 11u 50m Breaststroke. Relay thirds going to Ellie, Sophie Pritchard, Katie and Alexa 10u 4 x 25m Girls Medley Relay, Tyler, Joel, Luke, Rhys Harwood 10u 4 x 25m Boys Medley Relay.

The remainder of the points being won by Izzy Coleman, Charlotte Paine Josh Kemp, and new squad debutantes Annie-Ray Appleby and Matthew Horton.

A spokesperson for the club commented ‘the last time we came to Matlock for a novice gala we were a little disappointed to eventually finish in fifth place. This time being able to field a full team really helped us to rack up the points and ensured, as always, our swimmers finished with huge smiles on their faces’.
