Matlock Inter Club Gala – A Dolphins Winters ‘Tail’

It was a cold and wintery night on the 17th March when a depleted Dolphins squad travelled to the Matlock Arc for the Inter Club Gala. Injury, weather and unavailability meaning that many juniors were needed to swim up several age groups.

Lynden Johnson got the Dolphins off to a good start by winning the 15U Breaststroke in a personal best time. 9-year-old Joel Gospel swimming up an age group then went on to win the 11U Backstroke followed by 10-year-old Katie Hill swimming in 13U category winning both the 100m Backstroke and Butterfly.

Individual second places on the night going to Isaac Brewster 9yr 25m Freestyle, Grace Pritchard 9yr 25m Freestyle, Luke Chamers 11u 50m Breaststroke and Isobelle Booth 9 yr 25m Backstroke.

The one relay second place of the night going to Girls Ellie Norris, Sophie Pritchard, Katie, Ella Staniforth in the 11u 4 x 50M Medley Relay.

Third places on the night going to individuals Luke Hill 15u 100m Backstroke, Lauren Daft 15u 100m Breaststroke and Isaac 9yr 25m Breaststroke. One solitary relay third going to Luka Gospel, Joel, Luke Chambers, Rhys Harewood in the boys 11u 4 x2L Medley Relay

Gala debuts were made by Scarlett Housley and Sally Warsop Hook.

A spokesperson for the club commenting ‘This gala for us was all about the relays that start and end the night. With a thin squad it was difficult to be competitive in these but our individual swims and the 18 personal bests on the night kept us within sight of the top three and at one point in joint third. Overall though we were just glad everyone got home safely and enjoyed the swims’.

RESULT – MAD 248, Swadlincote 235, Derby Phoenix 204, Ripley 202, Dolphins 182, Matlock B 145, Matlock C 98
